Cancel Dish Network
Satellite TV through Dish Network is entertainment TV at its very best with great prices and many channels. That is until you start having money problems and can't change packages.
Gone are the days of being able to downgrade during financial challenges and then coming back to the same package. To clarify, you cannot downgrade and you cannot go back to the same pack. You can only upgrade to an even higher package. This may be another reason you may wish to cancel Dish Network. Another reason is you may be checking out one of their many competitors.
Contact Dish Network using the customer service phone number on your most recent billing, which should be 1-888-686-2388. Once you're on the phone with a Dish Network agent, let them know that you are calling to cancel Dish Network satellite service. You will be asked for the cancellation reason and your answer can be letting the agent know you're having money problems.
The customer service agent will probably offer you a deal such as a lower cost so that you will keep the service and not cancel Dish Network or they may allow you to suspend your service for six months. You'll pay a small monthly fee, $5, while your service is suspended.
Be careful though if you accept the first deal as it could mean another contract so it begs to ask this question without assuming regardless of how many times you are transferred in an attempt to get you to keep the satellite service active. If you take the deal, great but if not, request the account be cancelled effective immediately and ask for a confirmation number.
Cancelling Dish Network
If you're under a recent contract, have not completed the two-year agreement; expect to pay a termination fee for early cancellation in addition to the final bill.
The agent will give you the final bill amount. You can double check cancellation charges by looking over your contract. If you are from under the contract term, you should not have to pay an early cancellation fee.
If you are under contract or leased your equipment, you'll be required to send the equipment back at your expense. If you use the labels provided from Dish, along with their boxes, they will bill your account for the shipping cost. However, if you use their boxes but ship with a carrier of your choice, you'll pay the cost to ship and you are done.
After you cancel Dish Network service, ship the satellite equipment back using the address on the provided labels. The equipment you'll send back depends but it doesn't involve the outside round dish but it will usually involve a piece from the dish, all receivers, all smart cards, the switches, and all remotes.
